Part Time Cook

Job Description

The Cook is responsible for the preparation, cooking, plating and coordination of the meal service at Decatur House. The Cook prepares meals in accordance with applicable federal, state and local standards and regulations. Further, this position is an integral part of presenting quality meal service to the residents, their families and guests.

Must be flexible to work weekends and holidays as assigned.


  • Prepares each meal (entr e and desserts) per the prepared menu

  • Assures that all resident dietary issues are incorporated in each meal

  • Must be able to operate all kitchen equipment safely and effectively.

  • Maintains organization of food inventory and adheres to proper food labeling

  • Advises Management when supplies are in need or order/re-order

  • Must engage with residents during meal times for the purpose of gaining input on their dining experience

  • Ability to maintain composure in times of pressure

  • Helps wait on residents as needed

  • Assist in establishing food production line to assure meals are prepared on time

  • Proactively conducts regular cleaning per the Decatur House Kitchen Maintenance Program

  • Represents Decatur House with a positive, helpful and supportive attitude when interacting with residents, families and guests


  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • A minimum of 2 years' food service experience in an assisted living or restaurant setting

  • ServSafe Certification

  • Training in culinary arts preferred

  • Be able to lift 50 lbs.

  • Must have reliable transportation

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
