About the Department of Conservation and Recreation:
The Department of Conservation and Recreation manages one of the largest and most diverse state parks systems in the
nation and protects and enhances natural resources and outdoor recreational opportunities throughout Massachusetts.
DCR is a dynamic agency, and is one of the largest park systems in the nation. The DCR system includes over 450,000
acres of parks, forests, water supply protection lands, beaches, lakes, ponds, playgrounds, swimming pools, skating rinks,
trails and parkways.
Patrols state and county forests, woodlands, and otherproperty through on site inspection to detect wildland fires and to assess thecondition of access roads, and reporting violations of the forest fire laws.
Trains with and maintains firefighting equipment inproper condition by performing routine maintenance and inspection to ensurepreparedness for emergency situations.
Assist District Staff with the Suppression of wildland firesthrough the use of standard firefighting techniques by using such equipment asfire engines, portable pumps, wildland fire fighting hose, fire extinguishers, emergency generators,radio equipment, safety equipment, protective clothing and patrol vehicles.
Responds to calls for wildland fire emergencyassistance at the direction of a Fire District Supervisor , providingfirefighting assistance and/or by providing emergency medical treatment toinjured persons.
Determines the exact locationof fires through the use of topographical maps, charts, GPS, GIS, and othercomputer mapping software, and must triangulate with other fire towers throughthe use of alidades and other specialized fire detection equipment to ensurerapid response to the designated fire..
Operates fire observation towers within the FireDistrict as assigned.
Gathers and records dailyindices of the fire weather system using remote automated weather stations(RAWS) or facility weather stations.
Participates at the direction of the Fire DistrictSupervisor in rescue operations by searching for lost persons, downed aircraftand flood or drowning victims, and assistance to for natural disaster response.
Maintains assigned area by assisting with fire break orroad construction, maintaining fire roads and towers and keeping fire roads andpower lines clear to ensure prompt and unobstructed access to emergency siteswith the use of chain saws, brush saws and other related equipment.
Assists District Fire Warden in the training of fireagency staff, other agency fire personnel and the general public in the methodsand techniques of fire prevention and control.
Assists the District Fire Warden with delivery of FirePrevention programming within the agency and to local partners and interestedgroups using the Smokey Bear program.
Performs related duties as assigned and assistsDistrict Fire Warden in all aspects of fire management and workplacemaintenance.
Based on assignment, incumbents of positions at thislevel also:
Perform park or recreation area maintenanceduring low fire danger periods.

Minimum Entrance Requirements: None.
Special Requirements:
1. Possession of a current and valid Massachusetts Class D Motor Vehicle Operator's License.
2. Based on assignment, possession of a current and valid Class 2 Motor Vehicle Operator's License.
3. Based on assignment, possession of a current and valid CPR (cardio-pulmonary resuscitation) certificate from the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross.
4. Based on assignment, possession of a current and valid standard first aid and personal safety certificate and first respondent certificate issued by the American Red Cross.
5. Based on assignment, possession of a current and valid certificate as a Deputy Environmental Police Officer within one year of employment.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
